Those of you who have seen my old blog (and those of you who haven’t, it’s in my blog roll :)) know that I was a Tumblr blogger once. I switched to Wordpress because I was curious to see what that could bring me.
For starters, it brought me a lot of visibility. Where my Tumblr blog wouldn’t be visited by anyone but me for days, I quickly assembled some faithful likers and followers on my Wordpress blog. Still, I kept looking over my shoulder to see what Tumblr was doing and contemplating whether I could still be a useful part of it.
Yesterday was the Dutch launch of Tumblr. Although I wasn’t able to attend, it made me reconsider updating my Tumblr blog once again. And so I did, using Shiny New Toy’s method of importing my Wordpress blog into Tumblr.
Now I have the same stuff on both Tumblr and Wordpress and I still don’t know what to do. I post a lot of pictures which should make me eligible for Tumblr, but then again I have been adding a lot of text as well, making it more suitable for Wordpress.
Can anyone help me choose?

Moonrise Kingdom

Last Friday I found myself (and Fenna) in the woods of Amsterdam in an open air theater, getting ready to watch Moonrise Kingdom!
I had been anticipating this movie for months, because the trailer had been going around and it just looked so pretty! Also Jerry is a total Wes Anderson fan and told us we had to go see it. And Liset did an elaborate post about the movie on her blog!
We weren’t disappointed at all. Admittedly I was a little afraid I would be because I had such high expectations. But this is just an awesome movie. The colours, the details, the dialogues, the actors! I totally want a raccoon hat now :)
I won’t tell you anything about the movie, because it will open tomorrow and I don’t want to be a spoiler. But go and see it! It will make you feel so happy :)
My week in 1 photo - week 21

This past week was all about sunshine! After the weather had been so cold up until April, we finally had a big fat week of nice weather.
I know Dutch people are known to talk about the weather all the time, but that’s simply because we can have 4 different seasons in a day overhere. Now we had so many consecutive days of sunshine that no one can stop talking about it!
Also I had a fun barbecue celebrating Jesse’s brother’s birthday and I was lucky enough to see Moonrise Kingdom in an exclusive preview!
On to analog

Yes, I did it…
I bought myself a Moleskine diary! To all of you raising your eyebrows: I have been working with a digital diary for at least 3 years. I even shared with my boyfriend so we could keep up with each other’s work things. It was a lot easier to plan family gatherings as I was able to see instantly whether we were both available on a certain date. On top of this, getting a reminder message/bleep on your phone is so convenient for tiny appointments you tend to forget!
But the truth is, I have been missing my diary quite a lot these past few years. I am a total list maker, strikethrough-er, checker and arrow-placer and these things are pretty impossible to do in a digital diary. Which made it, to put it bluntly, awfully boring :(
Before I switched to Google Calendar, I always had the Moleskine weekly planner with the week on the left page and a notes page on the right. Totally awesome for a die-hard list maker like myself. I can honestly not think of a better way to organize a diary. So I got the same one this time. It’s just the best. Yeah, I’m a pretty big fan :D
The only downside is that I have to wait until July to start using it. But it goes on until December 2013 so I’ll have lots of time to scribble and place arrows. Yay!
Are you using a digital diary or a paper one? Have you ever tried the other?
Cocktails

Last week me and my friends went to the Bols Bartending World Championship. This took place in Escape (I place I don’t frequent a lot) and Bols had pulled out all the stops. Free cocktails for everyone, pretty girls with shakers in their hair serving us samples of the finalists’ cocktails and of course a goodie bag afterwards.
My week in 1 photo - week 20

Okay, I’m cheating a bit here. I didn’t take this picture in the past week, but technically in the one before that :)
This is Zebra, the cat that lives at lunchroom Wilhelmina. I was there last week taking pictures for their website. This weekend I also took pictures for Jesse and his colleagues who have started a new concept making snacks on location! So I’ve been a bit of an assignment photographer this week. This will go on for a couple of weeks as I will be taking pictures at several other events.
Well, I have another crazy week of dinner parties, cocktail drinking, and birthday celebrating ahead of me. Have a great week! What will you be doing?
Project #2: hand-sewn scarf

Although I love all the scarves that populate this Earth, I sometimes get the feeling that by combining the perks of the individual scarves, I can have one amazing scarf-for-life. But to get there, I have to make it myself. So here I went.
My ideal scarf is at least 3 meters long, has a bright colour that goes with most of my outfits and is made from a warm but not too hot fabric. Luckily, I live close to a market that has a lot of fabric stands. I ended up choosing a blueish green, slightly stretchy tricot fabric.
I pinned and stitched all of the seams, after I cut the fabric in a 90 cm by 4 m piece. With this tricot fabric you don’t even have to seam if you don’t want to. This fabric does not fray and when cut it curls naturally.
I’m so glad I have my ideal scarf now!
Tropical night out

Last Friday my Foam Lab friends and me went to Nachtsalon. This was an event organised by N8, the people who are also responsible for the annual Museum Night in November. Museum Night involves around 40 museums across Amsterdam but Nachtsalon (Night Lounge) is in one museum only.
This time it took place in the Tropenmuseum (Museum of the Tropics). I had never visited this museum, but now I have I am definitely going back for more! This is just a beautiful place, on the outside as well as the exhibition!
During Nachtsalon we saw a performance by Ntjam Rosie, a very talented singer. Also, we attended a very intimate spoken word/poetry act in an Arabian café. Lastly we did a little dance to the tunes of DJ Palmbomen.
We had great fun!
